DEVOTION: Nourishing Food

he Olympic athletes eat specific diets to stay healthy for peak performance. Nature provides amazing nourishment for every part of our body. We are what we eat. What we put into our body, mind, spirit emanates into our thoughts and actions.

Consider what you put into your mouth... into your heart... into your mind.

"You've come looking for me not because you saw God in my actions but because I fed you, filled your stomachs—and for free. Don't waste your energy striving for perishable food like that. Work for the food that sticks with you, food that nourishes your lasting life, the food God provides."

O God, I am so quick to eat what I want ...not what I need or what is best for my body, mind, heart and spirit.  I dwell on things that draw me away from the peace that passes all understanding.  I am quick to taste new foods and make judgements on people and perspectives without seeking wisdom and guidance from your Spirit of hope and goodness.  I forget that you are the Living Word that permeates anew with every sunrise. I tend to recall old experiences... historical ideas... past problems and long gone challenges and limit the possibility for newness and reformation in my heart, mind, body and spirit.  I want the lasting food of your love and grace.  I want the food of justice and mercy to stick in my heart and mind so that I can be more like you.  I want to know and believe that no matter what the circumstances of this day... your love ultimately prevails.  Help me, O God, eat from the tree of life... that fills me up with nourishing food.
