The commencement address was given by 2005 Pulitzer Prize winner Dr. Julia Keller. The former Marshall graduate (B.A. Magna Cum Laude, 1976; M.A. 1981) is a book author and cultural critic for the Chicago Tribune.
Marshall University Stephen J. Kopp presented Dr. Keller a Doctor of Humane Letters Honorary Degree. Dr. Keller was hooded by Dr. Frances S. Hensley.
Over 800 students were presented degrees on Saturday with Dr. Kopp personally recognizing each one of them as they came across the stage as their names were read.
After he ceremony concluded, many students went to their individual Marshall school commencement ceremonies later in the afternoon to be recognized again.
