Softball Releases Fall Exhibition Schedule

HUNTINGTON, WVMarshall softball will play at home six times as well as in nearby Charleston as part of its fall exhibition schedule which was released Wednesday.

A total of seven games await the Thundering Herd in the fall. Kentucky will be up first with a single game at home Sept. 16 at 1 p.m.

The previously announced contest against the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) All-Stars at Appalachian Power Park in Charleston has been moved back a day to Tuesday, Sept. 25. First pitch is currently scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

A pair of home doubleheaders awaits head coach Shonda Stanton’s squad on the final weekend September. On Saturday the 29, the Herd will do battle with Ohio Valley and Charleston in one game against each at 12 and 2 p.m. respectively. OVU and UC will play each other to start the day at 10 a.m.

The next day on Sunday, Marshall and West Virginia State will square off in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

Ohio will be the Herd’s final fall ball battle. The two will play at Dot Hicks Field on Oct. 7. The doubleheader will get underway at 1 p.m.

The 2012-13 Marshall squad welcomes back All-Conference players Andi Williamson and Jazmine Valle. The Herd also has 11 newcomers joining the nine returning players. The 2013 will be the 20th season in the history of Marshall softball. It will be the 14th year for Stanton as head coach.

Stanton enters her 14th season at the helm of the Herd and returns All-Conference USA and NFCA Mideast All-Region pitcher Andi Williamson, who collected a Marshall single-season record for wins with 25. Also returning for the Herd is fellow all-conference selection Jazmine Valle, who had a team high 10 home runs and 44 runs batted in.
