Women's Soccer Hits the Road for Campbell Monday

HUNTINGTON, WV -- The Marshall women’s soccer team will travel to Buies Creek, N.C. Monday for a match against the Fighting Camels of Campbell University. Kick-off is slated for 4 p.m. at Eakes Athletic Complex.

Live stats will be available through HerdZone.com.

Marshall (2-2), hot off a 2-1 victory over Saint Francis Friday night, will look to improve its record back over the five hundred mark while handing Campbell its first loss of the season.

The 1-0-1 Camels notched a 2-1 victory over Conference USA-affiliate East Carolina in their season opener then followed the next week with a 1-1 draw against Francis Marion. CU will enter Monday’s contest on nine days rest.

Campbell finished 2011 with a record of 15-5-2 (7-1-2 Big South) and entered the 2012 season as heavy favorites to win the Big South Conference. Goal-scoring sensation Ashley Clark scored 11 goals last year in her freshman season and now leads the Camels with two of the team’s three goals in 2012.

Clark is backed by a defense that allowed only 16 goals in 22 games last season (0.73 GAA).

Four games into the season, Marshall has already shown incredible depth to its roster. Six different players have accounted for the six Thundering Herd goals, and seven different players rank on the points list.

Senior forward Chelsey Maiden leads the team with five points, adding the game-winning goal against Saint Francis to the three assists she had already tallied prior.
