Freeman Named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas- Matt Freeman of the Marshall University men’s soccer team has been named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week after helping the team remain undefeated with two shutouts on the road this past week.

The freshman defender from Irmo, S.C., has started every game for the Thundering Herd this season at right back, and has played a key role in keeping the Herd’s shutout streak alive through three games this fall. Freeman also found himself on the offensive side of things this past match, claiming an assist to Eddy Prugh’s game-winning goal in the 1-0 win over IPFW on Monday.

Freeman’s award marks the second time in as many weeks that a Marshall athlete has received the honor after senior goalkeeper Daniel Withrow claimed the title last week. Through two weeks this season the Herd is the only team with multiple players on the C-USA Player of the Week lists.
