DEVOTION: Remembering 9/11

Updated 8 years ago by Beth Bondurant

Over and over again we see the pictures......hear the stories.......we still weep and wonder.......Why?

How can we humans be so intentionally destructive... How can we deliberately seek to destroy the lives of one another... What reason is good enough to render such torture to ourselves and to our
brothers and sisters...

We light the candles of peace and healing and hope and pray that this kind of hatred will be overcome by goodness and love.....by compassion and care...........by shalom and prayerful living.

We confess that we, too, display the signs of selfishness and self-centered aggression.  We confess that we forget how we belong to one another....no matter what language we speak...what color, what race, what religion....we are one people....with one God and Father of us all.

When we  claim to be Patriots....we need to see our love of country extending to every corner of  the world...... Oh God....we know that it is only You who can mold our energy and enable us to learn how to
love....

We remember and in our questions and frustrations and fears and inept deeds we seek to be transformed...

We remember that as much of our world crumbles and changes...only You are constant and immutable....

We remember that love conquers all..........that only love triumphs. "Love bears all things....believes all things....hopes all things.....endures all things.....Love never ends!"

We remember and give thanks that You .........are the God of love.
