DEVOTION: Every Need Being Met

by Beth Bondurant

Tables and chairs... televisions and sofas... clothes and toys... kitchen and household supples... hot dogs and chips... brownies and cookies...the variety was made available...yet every need could hardly be met.

In and out... back and forth... slowly or quickly... looking and deciding... the opportunity was given... but at a rummage sale... every need is impossible to meet.

Not what I want... not the right color... too costly... too little... too old ... too many already... too much trouble.. too involved...not exactly what I require.

Different lifestyle... manifold designs... diversified intentions...various dimensions... multiple modifications...extensive possibilities...vast assortments... huge volumes... yet many walk away empty handed.

"All the believers lived in a wonderful harmony, holding everything in common. They sold whatever they owned and pooled their resources so that each person's need was met."

O God... you are the creator and sustainer... our redeemer and friend... yet we are not easily enfolded together for our mutual well being.  We wander away... seeking our immediate want... and forget the way to and from our intention.  Distraction and desire keep us rummaging through life ... hoping to secure the belongings of our heart. Forgive us, O God.  You are ever there to shepherd us home... to bring us back to security and contemplation... to anoint our minds and bodies with the goodness of healing and hope.  Thank you for never letting us go... even when we stray clear out of sight.  Your mercy is from everlasting to everlasting... and it is ultimately through you and by you we rely on every need being met.
