Police Shoot, Kill Truck Driver with Knife Attacking Special Metals Guard

A police officer shot and killed a truck driver armed with a knife near the Special Metals facility early Saturday morning, Dec. 22. According to a release from Police Chief Skip Holbrook, Johnie Emerson, 32, of Hamilton, Ala. was killed at  a gravel lot near the facility.

"When the officer stopped to investigate the matter further, he was confronted by a man armed with a knife and a security guard who was working security at the nearby Special Metals facility,” the release stated.

The man who had driven a truck allegedly confronted a plant security guard with a knife.

“The officer responded to the threat by firing several rounds from his service weapon, striking and killing the armed suspect,” the release stated.

Based on the earlier dispatch, Huntington police  responded about 1 a.m. to Riverside Drive and Rt. 60 near the bridge that crosses the Guyandotte River. WSAZ.com earlier reported two injuries, however, the guard was not harmed. Further details will be provided on Monday.
