Hope is in the air in downtown Huntington. The dream is back. It appears that Huntington citizens are coming together. In a time that our nation is preparing to go off a fiscal cliff, Huntington is being re-energized. Steve Williams, a Democrat who had many Republicans supporting him, is taking over the mayor's office at City Hall.

Mayor Wolfe did an honorable job, but Huntington was/ is at the crossroads and needed a change.

It seemed symbolic that crime reared it's ugly head on election day in the form of a triple shooting in which two drug dealers from Detroit were killed. It was almost as if election day was the crossroads and the shooting signified the wrong road.

It is also symbolic that the mayoral inauguration is at The Keith-Albee. Like Huntington itself, The Keith Albee has weathered the storm. The Keith Albee, like Huntington has seen historic days and bad times but it is being revitalized. Many places like The Keith have withered away, but The Keith Albee has survived, so has Huntington.

Steve Williams represents hope, a new beginning. He is a charismatic leader that Huntington is clamoring to follow. A Democrat who embraces The Laffer Curve (a Reganomics principle), Williams can become the symbol of teamwork that unites the best minds of Huntington.
Steve Williams cannot take Huntington to the next level by himself, but he offers an openness and connectivity that past mayors lack. If Mr. Williams is to succeed, it is going to be through teamwork. It is his teamwork skills and his ability to combine politics and finance that promises to open the door to a bright future.

His transition team has offered strong advice and ideas. The occupation tax has been killed. The world may be in turmoil with fighting all over our planet and our country may be heading off a financial cliff, but for now, the sun is beginning to shine on Huntington.   //
