BREAKING: Revised Home Rule Passes Senate, No Victory Lap Yet

Mayor Steve Williams has reported at a Huntington City Council work session that a revised Home Rule bill passed the State Senate 34-0 this morning. The bill would extend the program to ten cities and the current pilot cities would not have to reapply.

The Sales Tax with accompanying B & O tax reduction appears to be an items which many cities throughout the state wish to copy including Charleston.

"No victory lap yet," Williams said, regarding House passage. The House will likely pass a different version than the Senate which will require House/Senate negotiations to devise a bill acceptable to both houses.

In addition, the Huntington Sanitary Board has found received interest rate reduction on current bonds from People's Bank, which will over the lifetime save the board about $330,000.
