HUNTINGTON, W.Va.- The Marshall women’s basketball team continued to visit Huntington’s surrounding elementary schools on Tuesday in an effort to promote its nationally televised game against UTEP on Sunday, Jan. 9. The contest marks the Herd’s Conference USA home-opener.

Each Thundering Herd women’s basketball player attended a different elementary school since returning from the holiday break in support of Sunday’s “Elementary School Pick A Star Day.”

“We are very excited to have the opportunity and the invitation to come in to the elementary schools and show that our players are responsible as role models within the community,” head coach Royce Chadwick said. “It gives the girls and opportunity to give back as well as the kids in the area a chance to come and watch our girls before. It’ll be a big game and a great opportunity to extra people into the Henderson Center.”

All elementary school students and faculty are encouraged to root on their favorite Herd players and will receive free admission to the UTEP game which is scheduled to tipoff at 5 p.m., at the Cam Henderson Center.

The Thundering Herd is coming off a 79-69 win against Elon in its final game of the 2010 calendar year. Marshall looks to string together a pair of wins as it opens C-USA action on the road against Memphis on Thursday, Jan.6. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m., at Fed Ex Forum.
