DEVOTION: Hot and Humid

by Beth Bondurant
HUNTINGTON, WV (HNN) - During this time of year the weather reflects how high the heat index climbs from day to day.

Why we seem to be astounded when it comes to the hot days is somewhat a mystery since year after year... we wait for summer to arrive... well knowing the consequences of warmer weather.

Knowing the truth and actually experiencing precise words in action can be an awesome difference.

Work groups have been traveling in and out of our area... working to repair homes in these hot summer temperatures.  The sweltering sun and then the stormy rains couple to bring challenging consequences to these willing hearts and hands.

Having contact with these brave and committed volunteers, one isn't too surprised to find that they would choose to work rather than take a day off for R & R.

“Let anyone who is thirsty come to me, and drink. As the scripture has said...Out of the believer’s heart shall flow rivers of living water"

O God... when we see your loving presence moving around us... we are nourished and filled up with hope and grace and stirred to move toward peace and faithfulness in all we do.  Thank you for the examples of both young and old who find truth in your call to us as God's heart and hands in a world searching and seeking goodness and mercy.  Thank you for the cooling and soothing effect that sacrificial love has on our hearts and minds.  We pray for strength for this day... to reach out to one another in hope and healing.  Touch us through the caring of another and enable our hearts to "flow rivers of living water" in the midst of hot and humid.
