DEVOTION: Finding Treasure

by Beth Bondurant
HUNTINGTON, WV (HNN) - Things that shimmer and shine ar
e a joy to see... to touch... to encounter... to embrace. Particularly this summer as work groups have come in and out of our area we have had the opportunity to be blessed with many treasured discoveries.

Uncovering the precious gifts so generously poured out around us is like being on a collision course with God's goodness and mercy.

Somehow we find that we have exactly what we need.. when it is needed.

Even when the precious material required is impossible to find, a comparable treasure is uncovered to complete a realized hope.

Buried in deep mud... swinging from a tall branch... smothered in a tasty treat...strung around the neck of a special messenger...caught up in the tangled plot of everyday living... finding treasure is a common bounty of God's love and presence.

"Then you see how every student well-trained in God's kingdom is like the owner of a general store who can put their hands on anything you need, old or new, exactly when you need it."

O God, we can get so caught up in the busyness of everyday living that we miss the jewels and gems of your ever present Spirit bringing us goodness, kindness, patience and love. We are made in the image of God's creative majesty and filled with sparkling possibility even though sometimes it becomes buried so deep it seems hidden and lost. Help us uncover your purposeful gifts and learn new ways of becoming disciples of faithfulness, gentleness, joy and peace.  Thank you for hiding truth and love all around us and help us reveal your amazing grace in our acceptance and participation in your unconditional and magnanimous compassion.  Today, we want to be ready to grasp and understand the divine purpose for seeking and finding treasure.
