HUNTINGTON, WV (HNN) - This mid-August weekend will toss movies of nearly all genres at viewers, hoping that one will rise above "Planet of the Apes" and "The Help."

However, for many in our area, schools have opened earlier than normally due to the persistent bad winters with excessive snow days. As a result, cinemas have in some cases already switched to post-Labor Day schedules, i.e. no weekday matinees. Another impact of the early start of school, the Friday Night Lights schedules tend to impact flicks.

The WV made, Doughboy, a family friendly present day patriotic flick shot in Wheeling, shows at four Marquee Cinemas across the Mountain State.

Conan the Barbarian receives a "reboot" but you won't be seeing the former Governor in the cast. "Final Destination V" receives competition with "Fright Night."

As fall represents a slower movie season than summer, the multiple prints have given way for rotation of 3D and 2D screenings (i.e. 3D at night , 2D by day, etc.).

A lot of those 'hopeful' romantic comedy diversions leave the big screen this weekend. Thursday will be the last day in many areas for "Friends with Benefits," "Crazy Stupid Love," and "Horrible Bosses," while both "Harry Potter," "Cowboys & Aliens" and "Captain America" inch near the completion of their theatrical runs.

Doughboy," a family-friendly film that pays tribute to America's men and women in service, opens Friday, Aug. 19, at Marquee Cinemas in Wheeling (Triadelphia), Charleston, Huntington, and Beckley.  The film shot exclusively on location in Wheeling earlier this year and is directed by J.W. Myers and written by Ty DeMartino. It explores the issues of freedom and patriotism and how they are perceived by today's young people. Flyover Films and Route 40 Films produced "Doughboy" and was executive produced by Wheeling's Kristin Seibert. It stars newcomers Barrett Carnahan, Emily Capehart and Michael Allen and features veteran film and TV actor Terry Kiser ("Weekend at Bernie's

Friends with Benefits
: Headhunter (Mila Kunis) persuades recruit (Justin Timberlake) to forsake his job in San Francisco and move to the Big Apple. Both have been avoiding relationships and they both realize their chemistry is bubbling. Instead of hooking up, they decide to be best friends with nighttime benefits. Will no strings attached solve their sexual and personal issues?

Horrible Bosses: Colin Farrell, Jason Bateman and Charlie Day have bosses from Hades. They decide the only way to happiness is to waste their superior. Their murderous plan soon snowballs into chaos. Directed by Seth (“Four Christmases”) Gordon, Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx and Jennifer Aniston (as a foul mouthed dentist) have supporting roles. IMDB suggests a dude’s version of “Nine to Five.” Boxoffice Magazine believes this could be “one of the summer’s biggest sleepers” due to the excellent cast and high concept premise.

Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows (Part 2 in 3D): A decade after it began, Daniel Radcliffe (Harry), Hermione (Emma Watson) and Ron (Rupert Grint) go back to Hogwarts for the fight to the death duel between Harry and Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes). David (“Order of the Phoenix,” “Half Blood Prince” “Part One Deathly Hallows”) Yates has a challenge faced by few directors --- Bringing a mega-tentpole franchise to a noteworthy close. Or, will J.K. Rowling give in and pen another Potter novel?

Captain America the First Avenger
: One of the first characters upon which Marvel built its universe, Chris Evans stars as a meek World War II soldier who gains powers beyond most mortals after consuming an experimental serum. Hugo Weaving plays the Captain’s nemeses, the dreaded Red Skull.
