Send Off Planned for Huntington Highlanders to State Championship

Huntington High School plans a send off Friday, Dec. 6 for its football team and coaches. They leave by chartered bus for Wheeling where on Sat. Dec. 7, HHS takes on Martinsburg for the State AAA Championship.  

Here are some details:


9:00- Football team will eat breakfast in the cafeteria. Our cooks are preparing them a big breakfast.


9:30- The band will begin playing through the hallways at the school.


9:40- Students will be released, they will be lining the hallway from the cafeteria down toward the gym and then out the doors that lead to the flag pole loop.


9:50- Players will be released from cafeteria and make their way to the buses.


10:00- Team loads charter buses and leaves.

Since rain is anticipated on Friday, outside events might be limited. Councilman Rick Simmons said, "We would love for parents, community, and anybody to come line the hill with cars. The Highlander, band and cheerleaders  will be present.  Hope to see everyone on the hill Friday morning for a great send off! Go Highlanders! Lets Rally around these Young Men.."

Despite the potentially rainy skies, Simmons continued, "The pride that is being displayed for these Young men is overwhelming....They are the future of our city...Although a lot of us can not be there physically, We will be there in spirit......It reassuring that these young will be carrying the pride of our city with them!"


The West Virginia Class AAA state championship game begins at noon Saturday at Wheeling Island Stadium.
