Nominations for Governor's Arts Awards Underway

TheWest Virginia Division of Culture and History and the West Virginia Commission on the Arts are seeking nominations for the 2014 Governor's Arts Awards.

Nominations are due Feb. 14, 2014. Nominees or organizations must be current residents or do most of their primary business in WV. A gala will celebrate the winners at the WV State Theatre in the Cultural Center Complex in Charleston, WV.

Categories include:


*  Arts In Education Award recognizes efforts to strengthen arts education in West Virginia public schools and the overall impact on arts education in West Virginia


• Distinguished Service Award to the Arts recognizes individuals and/or organizations of exceptional talent and creativity that have contributed to the arts and have fostered growth and influenced trends and aesthetic practices on a state and national level.


• Leadership in theArts Award recognizes individuals and/or organizations that have demonstrated exceptional leadership and access to the arts throughout the state ofWest Virginia.


• Artist of the Year Award recognizes an individual artist that has displayed excellence in their discipline and has impacted the exposure to the arts in West Virginia through their work.


• Governor's ArtsAward for LifetimeAchievementfor significant achievement in the arts for an individual and/or organization.
