BREAKING... Contaminated Water Had Second Chemical

Members of the Chemical Safety Board have told state and federal agencies that the spill of crude MCHM also contained a product called PPH.

Daniel Horowitz, managing director of the CSB, told Charleston Gazette environmental reporter, "we were told about another component in the mixture that had been added to the Crude MCHM, a product called 'PPH' consisting of polyglycol ethers, at about 5.6 percent."

The Chemical Safety Board has clarified some of the early confusion concerning the leaked chemical. The terms "Crude MCHM" and the chemical  "4-methylcyclohexanemethanol"   are not interchangeable. 4-MCHM is one of seven components of the compound.
