Toughman Tonight and Saturday at BSSA

HUNTINGTON, WV (HNN) - Jerry Thomas’ West Virginia Sports Promotions, KEYSTONE LIGHT, 84 LUMBER,  MIKE FERRELL TOYOTA-SCION and A-BAIL BONDS will present the 23rd ANNUAL TRI-STATE ORIGINAL TOUGHMAN CONTEST, January 14th & 15th at Huntington’s BIG SANDY SUPERSTORE ARENA. This year’s event is being welcomed by media sponsors WTCR, WAMX and SUDDENLINK MEDIA. The host hotel is the RED ROOF INN of Huntington. This year a professional fight featuring WV Cruiserweight Champion Bobby Thomas, Jr will be presented on January 15th.

Fighter’s registrations are now being accepted for the very popular event that is a single elimination boxing tournament, open to area men and women, age 18 to 39, with no pro fights and limited amateur experience. Bar Brawlers, Bar Bouncers, Street fighters and MMA fighters are welcome. All bouts are scheduled for three, one minute rounds, with all fighters wearing 16 ounce gloves, protective headgear and a mouth piece. All applicants must be Tough and in good physical condition. The weight divisions for both men and women are: lightweight (up to139lbs) middleweight (140-159), light heavyweight (160-184 lbs) and heavyweight (185-400 lbs).

Up to $12,000.00 in cash prize monies will be awarded. The champion in the men's light heavyweight, heavyweight and middleweight divisions will each receive $1,000 and the runners up will each receive $300. Prize money for the new lightweight division and the women’s divisions will be based on the average number of bouts and paid up to the same amounts. In addition to the cash prize monies, each weight class champion will receive a Toughman jacket. Each weight class runner up will receive a trophy. A total of eight weight divisions will be available.

“Miss Ring Girl” will receive $1,000 cash, Toughman jacket. First, 2nd and 3rd runners up will each receive $200. Entries for fighters and ring girls are now being accepted by telephone at 1-800-296-3897 or online @wvtoughman.com.

This event is sanctioned and will be supervised by the West Virginia State Athletic Commission. It is also sanctioned by API, the originators and national promoter of Toughman. Tickets will go on sale Saturday December 11th at 10:00 AM at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena box office and all Ticketmaster outlets.
