HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Friends and fans of Marshall University are invited to gather in the South Hall of the Charleston Civic Center Wednesday, Jan. 19, for a reception that will precede the annual Chesapeake Energy Capital Classic.

The Marshall University Alumni Association is hosting the reception, which runs from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and coincides with the annual basketball doubleheader between Marshall University and West Virginia University. The women’s game starts at 5:30 p.m., and the men’s game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. in the Charleston Civic Center Coliseum.

The reception, which is free to the public, is being sponsored by Liberty Mutual Insurance, The Pepsi Beverages Company and Rent–A–Center. In addition to a live DJ providing music, the reception will feature giveaways, complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. The MU pep band and cheerleaders will stop by, as will Thundering Herd mascot Marco.

“Last year more than 600 people attended this event and we anticipate even more this year,” said Tish Littlehales, Marshall’s director of alumni relations. “It truly is one of the most enjoyable and exciting events of the year, just what our fans need to get them ready to cheer on our men’s and women’s teams as they play the Mountaineers. We encourage all Herd fans to stop by.”

Representatives from 16 campus organizations will take part in the reception, setting up displays and sharing information with visitors. Among those planning displays are:

The Lewis College of Business; the Graduate School of Education and Professional Development; the W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications; the College of Fine Arts; the College of Education and Human Services; the College of Health Professions; the College of Science; Information Technology; the College of Liberal Arts; the Marshall University Research Corp.; the Office of Recruitment; the College of Information Technology and Engineering; Outreach and Continuing Studies; Career Services, the Joan C.
