The Coalition of Retired Public Employees (CORPE) will hold its annual legislative rally at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb 13, 2014  in the very nice food court area in the basement of the Capitol.  Breakfast is being will be provided. "Legislators, members of the Board of Public Works and the governor have been invited to speak to the retirees." Some issues include the need for a cost of living increase, a $20,000 tax exemption, and erosion of health care benefits. It is open to retired and active workers, families, and supporters, (Non Union or Union,  State County, Municipal, City, and Federal,  WVPERSA, CWA, AFSCME - WV, UE local 170, AFT WV,  WVEA, etc.

There will be free parking at Laidley Field. You can catch the Capitol Shuttle Bus about every 10 minutes. From points west: Take I-64 East toward Charleston. Take the WV-114 Greenbrier Street exit 99 and turn right, driving toward the state capitol. Make a right onto Washington Street, and another right on Elizabeth Street.  Be careful not to park on the employees section.

As many know,  low wages paid  public employees lead to low pensions and low social security. Now pension are paid with dollars that decrease in real value. With the erosion of health care benefits, a cost of living adjustment and tax exemption  are of great concern.
"All of us know there are two issues that hurt retirees; one being the increases

in PEIA premiums and secondly - not having a COLA. We also

know that everything will remain the same unless we make it change.

When enough of us make the effort to attend the Rally, then and only then,

will important changes take place. " - Quote from AFSCME WV Retirees Chapter 77 News  Volume 8 Issue 2 Winter 2008/2000
