DEVOTION: Into God's Hands

by Beth Bondurant

In an earthquake... a hurricane... flooding... winds and rains...in power that is beyond our control... we desperately fall "into God's hands".

In health issues... difficult relationships with family and friends... the everyday challenges and changes... we finally relent to seeking guidance and shelter "in God's hands".

In celebration... bounty... goodness... freedom ....liberality... generosity... we reluctantly slip "into God's hands".

God made us... forms us into becoming our highest potential as God's people of grace and peace... of unconditional love and eternal mercy so that through it all ... God's light can shine.

"If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it."

In the raging winds of a hurricane... or in the midst of torrential rains and upheavals in the world around us... we are "in God's hands".

Just as a young toddler thrashes around in the arms of a parent, we so do the same even when perfect love holds us "in God's hands".

Acquiring... having... experiencing goodness and grace... distracts us from understanding our calling and purpose of being "in God's hands".

O God, you do so want us to be light to the world around us... for our family... our friends... for strangers ...for those from a different place... a different understanding... another way of comprehension and consideration. With freedom and bounty, we so easily forget the meaning of sacrifice...of losing self... of being engulfed in waves of opposity and diversity.  Omnipotent wisdom and mercy is our only hope... but it sometimes seems like our last resort.  Forgive us ... and save us.  Restore us and renew our heart, mind, body and spirit.  In every struggle... in every test... in every way... we know where life shines... and we trust walking... running... being thrown willingly or reluctantly "into God's Hands".
