HUNTINGTON, WV (HNN) – When the stars don their best glitz and glam outfits tip toeing in their stilettos down the red carpet entering the Golden Globe ceremonies, the winners and losers provide indicators for Hollywood’s biggest ceremony --- The Academy Awards.

Globe nominations have already impacted release schedules, as the seven award nominated “King’s Speech” has worked its way into a selected mainstream pattern, hoping to gather some patrons from the publicity over the Globe nominations (and potential wins). “The Black Swan” received four nominations and went out before Christmas too. Other pictures with multiple nominations, The Fighter (6), Social Network (6) , Inception (4) , 127 Hours (3) , Alice in Wonderland (3) and The Tourist (3).

Bestowed by the Hollywood Foreign Press, the Globe format differs from Oscar: It separates “drama” from “comedy/music” in the best picture and acting categories.

Studios hope for a pre-Oscar nomination attendance “bump” from films that win Globes in multiple categories. Marketing gurus will often move a pic from “limited” major city dates to a more nationwide pattern , if it collects some significant Globe wins.
