Murder Suspect and Heroin Delivery Suspect Arrested Near Barboursville

Two men have been arrested in connection with the June 23 shooting of Eugene Walmsley in the 1300 block of 8th Avenue. Police arrested Spanish M. Smith (23) at 825 Nash Street, Apartment 1. On Monday, Timothy Anderson was charged as an accessory to the murder.

After receiving information that Smith was stayiing on Nash Street, the Barboursville Police Department and the Huntington Violent Crimes Task Force began observation of the location at about 4:30 p.m.

Members of the Barboursville Police Department and Huntington Police Department Swat Team set a perimeter then ordered occupants of Apt. 1 to come out. Two women and another man were detained for questioning by HPD, according to Lt. John Williams.

Barboursville police and WV State troopers stopped a Yellow Cab in the 5600 block of Route 60 which had been observed leaving the Nash Street apartment. Joseph Lovell Cook, 22, who is from Michigan, has been charge with possession of heroin. He is wanted for an unspecified violent crime in that state. They will extradite the suspect once WV is finished with him, Williams said.

Following the execution of a search warrant for the Nash Street apartment, officers located some drugs and at least one assault style weapon,  Williams added.

The Barbousvillle scene is still being processed.  HPD will update should additional charges be filed.
