Hallway Restoration Discussed by Mayor Williams
Mayor Steve Williams updated Huntington City Council members Thursday afternoon on efforts to restore the grand hallway of City Hall to its original look.

The restoration work will begin later this year and will involve the removal of the colored, exterior panels from the 5th Avenue side of the building and installation of large glass windows to allow for more natural light. The carpet and rubberized tile in the hallway also will be ripped up, and the marble surface underneath (see photo below) will be restored.

Dr. Joe Touma is raising corporate and philanthropic donations for the project. Touma has already secured $50,000. No public money will be used for the project, Williams said.

Unveiling the project will coincide with the 100-year anniversary of City Hall, the offices of which opened in early January 1915.
