True Grit (2010)

Enough already with the griping (by me) about the Golden Globes ignoring one of my favorite 2010 movies, "True Grit."  The Joel and Ethan Coen directed western, based on the 1968 Charles Portis novel,  garnered eight BAFTA nominees from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.

"True Grit" was nominated for Best Film (along with Black Swan, Inception. The King's Speech and The Social Network)

Jeff Bridges was nominated for best leading actor and Hailee Steinfeld was nominated for best leading actress. The film also received noms for best adapted screenplay, cinematography, production design, costumes, and sound.

I was also pleased to see that the Brits nominated Noomie Rapace ("The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo") in the leading actress category. Her film was also nominated in the best film not in the English language category. As just about everyone knows, British director David Fincher is making a U.S. version of the Swedish film, with Rooney Mara playing the Lisbeth Salander title role created by Rapace. In my view, it's  another unnecessary excuse to dumb down an excellent movie.
