HUNTINGTON, WV (HNN) – A special call Huntington Sanitary Board meeting occurs at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, in Huntington City Council chambers.

Huntington City Council met in executive session to discuss litigation. One of the matters likely involved the Sanitary Board. HNN had previously reported that a former employee is suing the Board and the City for on the job racial discrimination.

Loretta Covington, executive director, along with Darrel Black, vice chairman, and Alex Vence, member, were present during the second part of the nearly two hour executive session in which no votes were taken or decisions made. Mayor Wolfe is the chairman of the Sanitary Board.

Ms. Covington submitted a retirement/resignation letter to Mayor Kim Wolfe Friday, Sept. 2. Mayor Wolfe said the timing of her retirement/resignation has nothing to do with the litigation.

Although the Board and City recently settled one suit, HNN reported that discovery continues in the Wayne H. Friday complaint. A sworn deponent has testified about alleged racial discrimination at the Sanitary Board.

Some members of Huntington City Council have reviewed the deposition, which alleged multiple uses of the “n” word and other misconduct.
