DEVOTION: A Sweet Smile

by Beth Bondurant

At 94... one has experienced many aspects of "living".  I was moved by the way my Mom responded with such assurance... to a sweet smile.

In the hustle and bustle of our days, one look can bring about a myriad of sensibility

"I'm telling you these things while I'm still living with you. The Friend, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send, will make everything plain to you. God's Spirit will remind you of all the things I have told you. I'm leaving you well and whole. That's my parting gift to you. Peace."

Some days we feel utterly abandoned... and desire a sweet smile of hope.

There are times we are bereft of any familiar security ... and long for a touch of safety.

In upsetting circumstances... we yearn for tranquility.

When distraught and distressed... we are desperate for Shalom.

It is amazing how God's mystery of completeness ... comes in such simple and elementary manifestations.

Well being comes in a ...whispered word of kindness ...a gentle touch  ...a patient pause... a faithful presence... silent acceptance... a sweet smile... and numerous other disclosures of God with us.

O God... what peace you can bring in the toughest times.  It is unbelievable how you can soothe our spirit with the presence of your peace.  When our mind set seems contrary to that which brings reconciliation and harmony... we long for your touch of Shalom.  Heal our body when it is stressed and taunt ... fighting against the movement of today and bring us... Your peace... that passes all understanding. We are so grateful for those small but purposeful glimmers of hope... constantly shining in our darkness.  Open our eyes to your healing presence that comes... in a sweet smile.
