UPDATED: As of 2:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept 13, Fifth Avenue between 25th and 26th Streets has reopened. The sinkhole repairs have been completed.

A deep sinkhole and water leak has shut at least two lanes of Fifth Avenue between 25th and 27th Street. Crews at around 8 p.m. September 12 are expected to close all of Fifth Avenue between 25th and 26th Street to traffic. Major repairs will be undertaken overnight by the Huntington Sanitary Board and its contractor . If work goes as planned, the area will be reopened to traffic sometime Saturday morning.

Motorists are asked to choose other routes to avoid congestion during the work.
