Herd Women's Soccer Falls to RedHawks in Non-Conference Finale, 2-1

Special to HNN Provided by Herd Zone

OXFORD, Ohio – Despite a team-high fifth goal by senior Kristine Culicerto (Charlotte, N.C.), Marshall women’s soccer (3-3-2) could not overcome a first-half deficit and fell, 2-1, to Miami (Ohio) (5-1-0) on Friday at Miami Soccer Field.

In the 11th minute, the RedHawks drew first blood on their second shot of the match when Kelsey Dinges struck from 25 yards out into the top right corner of the Herd’s net. It was Dinges again in the 27th minute, assisted by Amy Malone and Haley Walter, to extend the lead to 2-0.

Two minutes after the break, Marshall seemed to find its footing when Culicerto headed the ball into the net off a chip by Kayla Byrnside (Milford, Ohio) to cut the lead in half. Marshall kept possession for the majority of the second half with three more scoring opportunities. The Herd’s back line held off the RedHawks but could not ultimately find an equalizer, falling, 2-1.

AGAINST THE REDHAWKS
Miami led shots (17-10) and corner kicks (8-6) while Lizzie Kish (Boyertown, Pa.) (3-3-2) made seven saves for the Herd.
