West Virginia Coal Association Endorses Evan Jenkins

From Press Release
HUNTINGTON, W.Va.  – The West Virginia Coal Association endorsed WV-03 challenger Evan Jenkins in a letter sent to his campaign this weekend, dealing a devastating blow to incumbent Nick Rahall’s campaign. The bipartisan group endorsed the re-elections of Democratic Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin and Sen. Joe Manchin in 2012, and did not get involved in Rahall’s last re-election.

“I am honored to have earned the trust and confidence of West Virginia’s coal producers, which provide jobs to thousands of hard-working folks in this district,” Jenkins said. “Their support of my campaign is a rejection of Nick Rahall’s partnership with Barack Obama in his War on Coal. In Congress, I will work every day to grow and protect coal jobs.”

The endorsement comes on the heels of Jenkins endorsements from the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce and West Virginians for Life, both of which had previously endorsed Nick Rahall in prior re-elections.

In 2012, state Democrat chair Larry Puccio noted the importance of endorsements from the Coal Association and state Chamber of Commerce: “These groups are real West Virginians who have endorsed and totally support Senator Joe Manchin and Governor Earl Ray Tomblin.”
