Johnson explained that a "revival" of "crack cocaine" distribution is taking place in Huntington (and throughout the United States). Both crack cocaine and heroin use lead to an increase in violent crime and property crimes, Johnson said.
Heroin users often steal and rob to gain access to funds for their addiction. As for crack cocaine, "the drug itself incites violence,"which results in violent crimes.
Chief Johnson expressed thanks for public input which is spearheading River to Jail, as residents affirm , we don't want drugs in our neighborhoods. The HPD Tip Line is 696-4444.
In earlier interviews, Johnson thanked the Williams administration, council, and the prosecutor's office (which has been on board since the start) for support. More agencies and elected officials need to step forward, particularly on the state level.
"Huntington can't do it alone," the chief underscored.
