MIAMI, Fla.- The Thundering Herd men’s soccer team travelled to Miami on Thursday in preparation for Friday’s Conference USA opening match against Florida International University.

The Herd arrives in Miami on a three game winning streak that is due in large part to Tom Jackson’s recent goal scoring antics. The junior forward has scored in two of the past three games, with the first being the game-winning goal in the 1-0 defeat of Michigan State, and the second being a hattrick in last weekend’s 4-0 thrashing of Winthrop. Jackson leads the team in scoring with four goals on the season.

Goalkeeper Daniel Withrow and company have also come on strong as of late, allowing just one goal – a header in the 3-1 win over Oakland – during the three game span. Marshall knows it must get stellar performances from both the offensive and defensive units if it wants to move to a .500 record of 4-4 on the year and start out C-USA play with a win.

Meanwhile, the FIU Panthers enter the game with a 3-2-2 record, the most recent mark on their record coming from a 2-3 loss to Georgia State. FIU has outscored its opponents 10-9 this year, with a majority of those goals coming from Quentin Albrecht and Lucas Di Croce, who both lead the team with three goals apiece. The Herd last faced FIU in October of 2010, when it defeated the visiting Panthers 2-0 at Sam Hood Field. Sophomore Travis Brent was amongst the goalscorers that afternoon, and he will be hoping to replicate his previous performance in tomorrow’s fixture.

Following the 7:00 p.m. showdown with the host Panthers on Friday, the team will then make the short trip to Boca Raton, where it will take on Florida Atlantic University on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. A win in both contests will move the Herd above .500 to a 5-4 record.
