The first of UniCare's Your Family's Health Expo will be held Saturday, June 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Raleigh County Convention Center in Beckley and will feature more than 20 health-related exhibitors and 2006 World's Strongest Man Phil Pfister.
"West Virginia ranks high in obesity, smoking and cancer rates," said Mitch Collins, regional director for UniCare. "Through fun and entertaining events like these expos, we hope to educate families, and mothers, in particular, about the important choices they make on a daily basis and how they impact the health of their family."
The event is co-sponsored by 59 News, WVNS-TV, and will include games for the kids provided by Party King, health screenings, and a presentation and autograph session with Pfister, a Charleston, West Virginia, resident who is considered one of the top strong man competitors in the world.
"Whether you are an athlete competing on the world stage or a mother taking care of your children, it is important to make smart health care choices," said Pfister, who is the son of two doctors and the husband of a nurse. "I look forward to participating with UniCare in these three health fairs."
Exhibitors at the Beckley health expo include: Weight Watchers, Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley Health Right, Just for Kids, Jan Care Ambulance, West Virginia Rural Health, Automated Health and West Virginia Birth to Three.
The two other events will be held in Welch and Bluefield later in the summer.
