DEVOTION: Overwhelmed

By Beth Bondurant

Even a simple and joyful task can be overwhelming. We are so very gifted to share ability and vision with others... yet feeling the freedom and favorable reception from ourselves and others doesn't come automatically with ease.

We are dependent on one another ... on circumstances of the moment... on God's Spirit to empower us to be and become "the image of God"... in overwhelming odds.

Time constraints... missing pieces of the puzzle... sweltering heat... slow progress... tedious understanding... vulnerable strength... aching and tired body... lack of patience... knowing a possibility... but ...

"With God, nothing is impossible."

Overwhelming acceptance ... unconditional love... mercy and forgiveness... strength renewed... the power of prayer... a refreshing smile... a word of encouragement... an understanding joke... a hand lifting us up... a pat on the back... a cool drink of water... a touching story... sharing together no matter what... being "one" in God's love.

Even in the darkest of night... God's presence and power overwhelms us.

Sometimes it takes "looking back... to actually see" and begin to comprehend... but at some point we are overwhelmed by God's goodness ... through it all.

"For I am persuaded that neither death nor life...nor angels nor principalities... nor powers.. not height nor depth... nor any other creature can separate us from God's love.".... nor any other overwhelming circumstance.

Cling to God's promise of peace and presence in the overwhelming circumstances of today.
