DEVOTION: The Ability to Pass Through the Mist
By Beth Bondurant
When surrounded by violence... hatred and intimidation... how does one 'pass through the midst' without encountering the consequences of these grievous threats.
Unbelievably... there is no safe age... place... dwelling that one can totally escape from "the world of impetuous force". It is part of "living".
It begins early in our childhood with taunts and teasing... harmful words and degrading portraits of our projected image and well being. It can even come from family... friends as well as classmates... neighbors... from parents, teachers and others responsible for our guidance and care.
This detrimental disease grows and gathers energy and strength and can become deadly for teens and young adults... for anyone who dares to be different.
When something or someone doesn't look or sound like our own voice of experience, it is all too easy to fall into hands of "crowd control" and be moved into doing "the very things I would not do".
How does one find the ability "to pass through the midst" of evil thoughts and actions and become God's steadfast witness of unconditional love and grace.
"And he never said a mumblelin' word".... "They drove him out to hurl him off a cliff... and he passed through the midst of them... and went on his way."
God's truth will set you free.... as love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.. Love never ends.
God's love enables us to 'pass through the midst'.... not always with our body or mind in tact... but with our spirit ... "soaring like an eagle" above the harshness of the world.
It isn't easy to ignore... or seek to enlighten our surroundings with compassion and unbiased acceptance or even 'pass through the midst" without feeling the outcome of dogmatic bias.
The ability to pass through the midst is an intentional choice to fall into the hands of the Living God... in hope... faith... love and peace.
