DEVOTION: Two-Minute Warning

By Beth Bondurant

Depending on the circumstances of your favored team... the two-minute warning in a football game... that shrill whistle stopping moment coming at the close of the fourth quarter can be both a welcome or almost heart stopping alert.

Having four brothers... two sons and a mildly sports fanatic husband has trained my patience to wait... long after the referee calls time out so the players and coaches can consider their last ditch effort to gain control of a victory.

Actually... this two-minute warning can last a lot more time than the initial ruling. Given the varied possibilities in championship play... the last moments of a game can sometimes seem... like a lifetime.

Not only in the sports arena, but also in many avenues of our life we are reminded that it is now time to be prepared for challenges and changes... for the agony and ecstasy... for the present and future of critical endeavors... both individually and corporately.

Time goes quickly... life moves on... our family grows and is in a continual state of reformation... jobs come and go... there is little constant in our economic condition... relationships are ever so tenuous and two minute warnings seem even more frequent.

God... the Supreme Being is the only constant... yesterday... today and forever.

We can hear with our heart...mind... body and spirit those official signals to pay attention... to be aware... to make ready... to adjust... to trust... to rely on God's goodness and grace... mercy and unconditional love as night turns to day in our lives.

It is never too late to look to the Master Designer for coaching and wisdom... for guidance and support... for "the peace that passes all understanding" no matter what the scoreboard may be flashing.

Today is a new day... and life continues even after that two-minute warning. A portion of our opportunities may lay in the past but God's redeeming love is able to "lift us up and empower us in body, mind, soul and spirit"... both individually and as we become "one".
