Hollywood, CA (HNN) – The director of “We Are Marshall” will segue back to his action roots having started the fourth installment in “The Terminator” franchise. However, despite now California governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, “I’ll Be Back” trademark from the initial 1984 production, the governor has apparently not been willing to abandon state affairs for a movie shoot.
The fourth installment “The Future Begins” occurs in 2019 after a machine induced nuclear cataclysm. A group of survivors led by John Connor (Christian Bale) struggles to keep them from finishing the job.
Bale’s most recent roles have been Bruce Wayne in the forthcoming “The Dark Knight,” “3:10 to Yuma,” “The Prestige,” and “Batman Begins.”
Thus, insiders say, even without the plot change, Schwarzenegger would be too old for the part. But hunting through discussions on http://imdb.com, you’ll find at least a “rumor” that the Governor may make a cameo appearance. But, Josh Brolin has garnered numerous buzz to replace the Gov. Brolin most recently played Detective Trupo in “American Gangster,” Chief Buchwald in “In the Valley of Elah,” Block in the “Planet Terror” segment of “Grindhouse".
Moon Bloodgood, who starred in NBC’s “Journeyman” has also shot “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li” and “What Just Happened.” She will play a battle-hardened member of the resistance, according to Hollywood Reporter. Anton Yelchin has been cast as post-apocalyptic warrior Kyle Reese. Sam Worthington has been cast as Marcus , an early edition of the cyborg.
Still, the fourth installment has been stated by trade magazines to be an effort to reinvent the franchise in a similar manner to Batman, Hulk and Bond.
No credible word on what style of a science fiction action/thriller McG has in mind, although a rumored source on the set suggests McG keeps referring to “Batman.” Another IMDB rumor has McG adding three female terminators in quasi homage to his “Charlie’s Angels” films. In addition, although creator James Cameron is no longer involved, he encouraged McG to take on the project and recommended Worthington to him for the Marcus part.
The “We Are Marshall” director told Hollywood Reporter that he plans to remain true to the franchise while also updating it.
“T:4 The Future Begins” starts shooting May 5 in Albuquerque, NM. The Reporter states that New Mexico’s 25% production tax rebate as well as open spaces , high tech parks and Kirkland Air Force Base helped secure the big budget production. It has been slated for a May 22, 2009 Warner Bros. release.
