Huntington, WV (HNN) – Warner Bros has trumpeted that the new Batman --- “The Dark Knight” --- has sold advance tickets in the studio’s words --- “at a pace unlike any other film in history.” The film opens on 4,366 screens which is a record number of prints. Many multi screen theatres will be showing the Dark Knight on two, three, or four screens.

According to MovieTickets.com, 700 Dark Knight performances are sold out. The film has outsold “Pirates of the Caribbean Dean Man’s Chest,” “Spider Man III” and “Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.” Some theatres will be showing the flick around the clock. Competing advance sales website Fandango has sold 90% of all its sales for weekend screenings of the new Batman flick.

A spot check of Huntington/Charleston/Beckley/Ashland cinemas, which sell advance tickets at their websites, do not as of Wednesday evening have any shows listed on-line as sold out. However, two auditoriums of the Thursday 12:01 screening of the Caped Crusader are SOLD OUT at Pullman, according to Courtney Angelet, assistant manager.

The theatre has NOT yet made a determination on whether to open a third auditorium for the midnight screening. Ms. Angelet told HNN that on Friday several shows are “nearly sold out.”

(NOTE: The on-line ticket sales are NOT as of 8:30 p.m. listing sell outs.)

Words of wisdom for avoiding disappointments --- even though most area theatres have at least two screens reserved for “Dark Knight,” if you really, really, gotta, gotta see it at a certain time, consider an on-line or at boxoffice advance sale. In fact, you can ensure a ticket for a particular show even if you have a bit of serendipity in you or your crowd: Purchase your tickets at the boxoffice one hour or 90 minutes BEFORE the show you plan to attend.

As for the good seats, Marquee’s pre-show has fast visuals and resounding sounds you don’t think it’s actually a fast paced, young person targeted commercial(s). I still LOVE the one Verizon ran for their Razor phone. So, head for the cinema and concession stand early. Based on running times, seating likely will not commence until 20 to 30 minutes prior to the start, but the lines will still be forming.
