OPENING WIDE APRIL 3:
ADVENTURELAND: Directed by Greg (“Superbad”) Mottola, this working at the amusement park blues flick shares Mottola experiences before he made it in Hollywood. During the summer of 1987 , a recent college grad learns his parents won’t finance a luxurious trip to Europe, forcing him to work as a lowly local theme park attendant where he daily deals with stuffed animals, cotton candy, and screaming kiddies. A coming of age reflection on the 80s decade featuring Kristen (“Twilight”) Stewart, Ryan (Wade Wilson /Deadpool in the upcoming “Wolverine”) Reynolds, and Jesse Eisenberg.. (Miramax)

FAST & FURIOUS: Originally slated for summer release, director Justin Lin returns behind the wheels of the franchise he resurrected in 2006. What you may not know is that a young Roger Corman provided the story for a 1955 crime drama that contained Pebble Beach racing sequences and featured Dorothy (“Peyton Place”) Malone. Playing opposite her, the now late John Ireland. The title has been used at least twelve times (with the first use in 1915 as a short subject.) However, Vin Diesel initiated the Dominic Toretto role in 2001 as an ex-con battling undercover cop (Paul Walker) who infiltrates a subculture of street racing dudes. Paul Walker (Brian O’Conner) Michelle Rodriguez (Lefty) Jordana Brewster, and Vin Diesel ) reprise in the fourth installment which involves a heroin operation.

RUTHERFORD ON FILM: Review: Haunting in Connecticut
Huntington, WV (HNN) - Wood, bricks, and nails hold the house together. Spirits of those who passed through its doors still occupy its space. When a desperate mother with a son undergoing cancer treatments rents the former funeral parlor, the family needs to call every ghostbuster or ghost hunter available.
Based on a true story, “Haunting of Connecticut” should have been shot in 3-D; it would have scared the (not suitable for print) out of everyone. After a mostly routine “old house” star, the 2-D film converts the auditorium into a stuffed frige filled with decaying malevolent ectoblastic beings. Filled with ghastly apparitions floating in and out of frames, director Peter Comwell incorporates cancer treatment side effects into harrowing hallucinations often crafted by imagery which places the ‘spirit’ in a fuzzy , netherworld background. (That’s why it would have been a natural for three dimensional impact; those vile mummified entities would have naturally hovered off the screen.)
Unlike horror clichés, you will be afforded opportunities to acquire emotional intimacy about the entire family breeding incisive dramatic empathy. You care about most of the members of the family. You believe they are real. You likely won’t have it all figured out (a portion, yes, maybe).
Everyone has been afraid of the dark, wondered what’s behind a chained door, or tempted to explore the unexplainable. Intriguingly, you’re drawn into their bodies and minds. You’re not sure whether this is an old dark house scenario, an exorcist deviation , or welcome to my nightmare party.
What it’s not, no excessive slashing and body part rolling. The unknown pounces outward again and again, particularly the frightful hide and go seek explorations. The supernatural happenings avoid gushing hell fires and murderous devilish demons, leaving this story’s inexplicable close encounters --- visually and audibly --- with the paranormal pulsating closer and closer to reality.

Now, this group of rag tag Monsters must become super-heroes and save the world from aliens bent on killing everyone.
PAUL BLART MALL COP: Kevin James , a single suburban father trying to make ends meet, works as the security officer at a New Jersey mall. But no one takes a “mall cop” seriously, that is until Santa’s helpers shut down the megaplex and take hostages, including his daughter and her sweetheart. (Although the original came out in 1975, Steven Spielberg , set a new standard for lovable aliens in the 1982 release of “E.T., the Extra Terrestrial.”)
TAKEN: A former spy (Liam Neeson) traveling through Europe embarks on a frantic quest to rescue his daughter (Maggie Grace) after she is abducted by slave traders in Europe while following U2’s European tour.
THE WRESTLER: Burnt out Randy Robinson (Mickey Rourke) , an 80’s era wrestler, had a heart attack and was told never to enter the ring again. Attempting to start a new life, he works in a deli, moves in with an aging stripper and tries to be a ‘dad’ to her son. Then, his old nemesis wants a rematch. Rourke won the Golden Globe for Best Actor and is deserving of the honor.
