Comic Book Heroes Dominate MTV Movie Awards Nominations

You have until May 31 to visit the MTV website and cast your ballot for the 2009 MTV Movie Awards. Unlike the traditional ceremonies and categories, MTV has a few more edgier categories -- led by the “Best WTF Moment” (weirdest).
The nominations include the Curved Bullet Kill (Angelina Jolie) from “Wanted;” Jumping in the Poop Shed (Ayush Mahesh Khedekar ) from “Slumdog Millionaire; Peeing in the Sink (Amy Poehler) from “Baby Mama; ” the Naked Break Up (Jason Segel and Kristen Bell) “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”); and, Tasting Decapitated Head (Ben Stiller) from “Tropic Thunder.” To vote, click here: http://www.mtv.com/ontv/movieawards/2009/best-wtf-moment/
It’s a little hard to beat any of those WTF moments, but the Best Kiss category has Angelina Jolie and James McAvoy (“Wanted”), where McAvoy receives a steamy lip-lock in front of a cheating ex; James Franco and Sean Penn (who do not shy away from same sex PDA in “Milk”); Freida Pinto and Dev Patel (in the wonderful train station reunion from “Slumdog Millionaire”); Kristen Steward and Robert Pattinson (who crawls through the gal’s window in “Twilight”); Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron (where Zac brings the prom to his sweetheart in High School Musical 3); and Paul Rudd and Thomas Lennon (where the finding a best man friendly dinner of “I Love You Man” gets a little embarrassing).
Everyone loves a good fight and the 2008 flicks did not disappoint, though, I have a strong feeling that the sentimental favorite will out poll any humorous inclusions. The nominees: Anne Hathaway v. Kate Hudson for a Bridal Cat Fight in “Bride Wars;” Robert Pattinson vs. Cam Gigandet for a Vampire Showdown at a dance studio from “Twilight;” Christian Bale vs. Heath Ledger battling for Gotham City from “The Dark Knight;” Ron Perlman v Luke Goss in a hellish battle in Hades from “Hellboy II: Golden Army;” and an everybody’s stoned disturbance with Seth Rogen and James Franco v. Danny McBride from “Pineapple Express.”
MTV is a music video channel so the “Best Song” category is not unexpected. The nominees: Miley Cyrus “The Climb” ("Hannah Montana The Movie"); A.R. Rahman’s dance number “Jai Ho” from “Slumdog Millionaire;” The Boss Springsteen singing “The Wrestler” from the flick by the same name; and Paramore singing about the tension and awkwardness of Edward and Bella’s relationship in “Twilight.”
Normally, I’d raise some celebration for the Best Villains, but, again, I think the winner is a no-brainer: Derek Mears (“Friday the 13th”); “Dwayne Johnson (“Get Smart”); Johnathon Schaech (“Prom Night”); Luke Goss (“Hellboy II: Golden Army”) , and Heath Ledger (“The Dark Knight.”)
At the site, you can also vote for Best Movie, Best Female Performance, Best Male Performance, Best Breakthrough Female Performance, Best Breakthrough Performance Male, and Best Comedic Performance.
