Huntington, WV (HNN) – Fore. You may have dreamed of becoming a professional athlete, but at fortysomething (plus), let’s see, basketball, football, hockey and baseball, just would not be middle-age friendly. Enter Jon Fitzgerald, who determines he can be a pro golfer; he’s smart enough to keep his day job, however.

Showing for one night only, “The Back Nine,” depicts the filmmakers journey --- complete with a swing coach, yoga instructor and sports psychologist ---- to assist in his aspiration of qualifying for the Golf Channel’s Amateur Tour. Among his helpers, Dr. Joe Parent, author of "Zen Golf."

In a published interview, Fitzgerald, who helped found the Sundance Film Festival, stated the film stresses it is never too late to pursue your dream. “There’s also a major father and son theme running through 'The Back Nine'. I’ve played a lot of golf with my dad, he bought me my first set of clubs.”

The documentary goes onto the big screen to coincide with the U.S. Open. It will then likely be available on DVD.

In the West Virginia region, “The Back Nine”, shows tonight, Thursday, June 25, at selected Marquee Cinemas. Check their website, http://marqueecinemas.com or HNN’s Weekend First for specific theatres and showtimes.
