Hollywood, CA (HNN) – Rumors have been circulating that AEG, the Los Angeles based concert promotion and touring company staging Michael Jackson’s tour and comeback, shot the June 24 rehearsal with multiple state of the art cameras, according to a blog appearing in the Chicago Sun Times.
Word has leaked that the Staples Center rehearsal accented Jackson at his “peak,” although those comments have been disputed.
The rehearsal was captured in SurroundSound and the performance included dancers, musicians and aerial performers.
Obviously, a CD could be in the future. But , a DVD is also likely. However, the question of the moment: How will it be released? Will it go first to digital cinemas worldwide, perhaps, as a special screening which would deliver the maximum of the visual and audio mediums?
Should the rights be sold for a digital cinema presentation, Charleston, Huntington and Ashland all have theatres capable of bringing the production/rehearsal to the big screen. Both Marquee Cinemas and Cinemark have shown live concert and/or sports specials, so keep your fingers crossed.
Or, it could be “aired” as a pay-per-view event on cable? After that, likely, premium and digital cable and other networks likely would have a chance to purchase airing rights. Then, sometime in the future, both would likely become available for purchase by fans --- a sale that would surely become one gigantic stampede by fans.
According to Sun-Times columnist Bill Zwecker, the timing may not occur until after a proposed tribute to Michael. Although Madonna, Diana Ross, Bruce Springsteen, and Stevie Wonder have been mentioned (among others) as participating, the sources do not yet know if the tribute would be a live concert or a televised special (or both).
