Lewisburg, WV (HNN) -- New York City performing artist Peter Neofotis, grand-nephew of Lewisburg resident Tess Barr. will be at Greenbrier Valley Theatre this weekend to celebrate the release of his award-winning book --- based on his downtown New York City one-man show --- Concord, Virginia: A Southern Town in Stories. Performance dates are July 2 at 7:30, July 3 at 8pm (with post-show talk-back), and July 4 at 8pm (final performance).

The saga of Concord, Virginia began in March 2006, when Peter Neofotis performed one of his prose short stories, inspired from his childhood in Lexington, from memory at Greenwich Village's Cornelia Street Cafe. He was immediately asked by the cafe to do a full one man show. Neofotis's performances had overwhelming audience support, and his show has been a continuous feature at Dixon Place since then, bringing forth new tales from his mythical small southern town. Dubbed the "seeming love child of Truman Capote and Eudora Welty" (NYC's Next Magazine a compilation of Neofotis's scripts won the Pirate's Alley Faulkner Prize for Best Novella, and this summer is being published by St. Martin's Press as a book- Concord, Virginia: A Southern Town in Eleven Stories.

Concord, Virginia is the story of a town told through the history of its characters. For the Greenbrier Valley Theatre shows, Neofotis will relive three tales, including The Heiress, a tale of a young equestrienne who avenges the death of her horse, and The Ancients, a story about an old moonshiner who ruthlessly defends her river property from developers. In the tales, community and filial bonds come to odds with taboos, religion, and human laws- and the characters must choose by which system of ethics they will live.
