CLARIFICATION: Chaffin Bldg. Was Originally Called Robson-Pritchard Building

Robson-Prichard Building, 1910-11, 9th Street between Fifth and Sixth Avesby HNN Staff

Huntington (HNN) — A photograph accompanying David M. Kinchen’s review of “Huntington” identifies the building at 517 Ninth St. as the Robson-Pritchard Building. This was the original name of the pioneer skyscraper when it was completed in 1911, according to author Don Daniel McMillian. It was named for Fred Pritchard and Hugh Robson, who “occupied whole floors” in the building, according to McMillian. It was later renamed the Guaranty Bank Building and still later dubbed the Chaffin Building. We hope this clears up any confusion about the identity of this beautiful historic structure that any city would be proud to have.
