RUTHERFORD ON THEATRE: 'The Rainmaker' Leads off Marshall's 2005–06 Theatre Schedule

Huntington (HNN) — Four classics – one of them from a more contemporary perspective – make up the shows scheduled for production by Marshall University's Department of Theatre.
"The Rainmaker," a romantic comedy involving a con artist who boasts he can create rain, opens the season October 5–8, 2005 at the Joan C. Edwards Playhouse. Katharine Hepburn and Burt Lancaster starred in the 'classic' 1956 film of the 1954 Broadway hit.
Louisa May Alcott's rich and realistic story of beautiful Meg, artistic tomboy Jo, doomed Beth and selfish Amy goes up Nov. 9–12, 2005. Set in New England during the Civil War, "Little Women" depicts the March sisters in pursuit of their dreams.
The antics of gossipy southern ladies at a small–town beauty shop runs Feb. 22–25, 2006, when the critically acclaimed "Steel Magnolias" graces the Edwards Playhouse.
Finally, following an unofficial tradition honoring Shakespeare's birthday (April 23, 1564), April 19–22, 2006, features Shakespeare's "Julius Caesar." The first of Shakespeare's tragedies, the story tells of the conspiracy against the Roman dictator, his assassination and the aftermath.
Current season ticket subscribers will soon receive their letter and brochure in the mail. New subscriptions and individual tickets will go on sale at a later date. Call (304) 696–7184 for additional details.
