Great Backyard Bird Count Slated for Feb. 13-16

Special to Huntingtonnews.net

We’d like to remind you that the 12th annual Great Backyard Bird Count takes place this coming Friday, Feb. 13 through Monday, Feb. 16.

Bird watchers in your town and across North America are planning to tally the birds they see in backyards, park, nature centers, and public lands. They will file their reports online at www.birdcount.org where you can see results showing up on our maps in real time.

The Great Backyard Bird Count is a citizen-science project hosted by the National Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. It includes a photo contest and drawings for great prizes.

Most importantly it gathers a massive amount of data about where the birds are, and in what numbers, during late winter. All this information goes into databases that scientists use to better understand the movement and distribution of bird populations over time.

If you need additional information for stories, visit www.birdcount.org or contact:

Please help us make this the biggest Great Backyard Bird Count ever--we can't do it without you!
