To The Editor: I am a 21-year-old Marshall student, and honestly I haven’t given politics a second thought until this year. My interest in this election has mainly resided in the mayoral campaign. I feel that our current mayor, Jean Dean, does not have the best interest of our city in mind, and I believe that if she is re-elected Huntington will continue to suffer the consequences. As for David Felinton, he basically admitted that he does not know enough about the city to be put under such pressure as a public debate; in turn, using write-in candidate, Vince Russo, as a scapegoat. There was also an article in the Parthenon where Mr. Felinton tried to insinuate to Marshall students that he would make it that all city decisions would have to go through Marshall first. Why? Marshall is a learning institution, not a politician’s tool. In my opinion, the write-in candidate, Vince Russo, is the only candidate who really knows and loves Huntington for the city it is and can be. I feel that if Mr. Russo is elected, things in the city government might actually change for the best interest of the city and its residents. Mary B. Ferguson Huntington, WV |
