To The Editor: I would be appreciative if you would publish the following letter in your Letter to the Editor section in your next available issue. My telephone number for verification is (304) 574-0777. Thank you. Bob Wise puzzles me. Bob Wise has one of the most liberal, pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, pro-gambling, anti-gun, anti-Ten Commandants and anti-prayer in schools voting record of any congressman in the United States. Yet, now when he holds his political rallies, he sounds as if he is a walking, talking Bible. Bob Wise has voted for virtually every tax increase in his eighteen (18) years as United States congressman and, now, he claims to support tax cuts for working families. I just don’t understand how one could have such a liberal record and, all of the sudden, court conservatorism. I am also puzzled at his attack on Governor Cecil Underwood. Bob Wise’s latest commercial charges that Governor Underwood costs West Virginia workers by allowing millions of dollars of Workers’ Compensation premiums to go uncollected. This too is not true. As a practicing attorney at law, I receive, on a regular basis, Workers’ Compensation updates. When Governor Underwood took over his office, he inherited approximately a 2.2 billion dollar Workers’ Compensation deficit. Governor Underwood immediately implemented strict plans to reduce the debt - which included going after deadbeat employers who failed to pay their premiums. The plan is being carried out. The most recent update was that the deficit has already been cut by 500 million and is going better than projected. What I am telling you is true. It is not meant to be derogatory nor negative. It is simply truth. Bob Wise’s record is his record. Governor Underwood’s record is his record. It galls me that people will hold the voters out to have amnesia and say one thing contrary to their prior history. Bob Wise’s commercial states that it is time for a change. That is true, it is time for a change and that change is to take Bob Wise out of United States congress and send him home from public office. That is the change West Virginia needs.
