Huntington, WV (HNN) --Measures to pave streets and purchase new police cars were sent to the finance committee for further study.

Councilman James Ritter had proposed spending $500,000 of the Woodlands property tax money for street paving. By amendment, the amount was reduced to $300,000.

Councilman Scott Caserta had proposed spending $150,000 for new police cars.

Finance Director Bob Wilhelm again cautioned that the Woodlands settlement was a one time windfall. “We have a budget that’s very lean,” Wilhelm said.

Councilman Paul Farrell agreed “we need police cars, we need paving and we need a computer system.”

Ultimately, council agreed to let the finance committee examine their proposals for spending of the extra money from the Woodlands settlement.
