The year 2007 was a year of great takeoffs and new beginnings as recorded by our coverage and seen here again. Given the balmy January weather we're experiencing, in our second look back at last year in HNN video productions, we decided to show you some stories from last summer.
The first video that comes to mind is one highly relevant to current events.
The swearing in and introduction of the new Huntington Police Department's Chief of Police, Skip Holbrook.
Watching this video from June, you'll likely notice how Chief Holbrook's plans and predictions for his new position have largely come to fruition. Note the comment, "I like to lead from the front."

Skip Holbrook, Jr., Chief of Police- Huntington, West Virginia
Sworn In... "Time to go to Work"

William H. 'Skip' Holbrook, Jr. officially became Huntington's new leader of the police department in a ceremony at City Hall this afternoon. The City Council chambers were literally standing room only, as many of Chief Holbrook's friends, family, and former and future law enforcement brothers in arms mobbed the room to see the new man get his badge pinned on him by his wife.
They also got to see the passion he'll bring to his new position and hear his vision for Huntington.
Cammack had just let out for forever and ground had not yet been broken for the new Huntington Middle School when St. Joe stole the spotlight with their "groundbreaking" groundbreaking of a new multi-million dollar facility.

State-of-the-Art Start
St. Joe's Catholic Grade School Modernizes

Wednesday saw the beginning of a new era in private Catholic school education
in Huntington, with a six million-dollar facility breaking ground.

Here are two reports about another success story, Huntington Symphony Orchestra, under the leadership of Executive Director Laura Evans. Last summer we had several video concerts for you and here's one from Harris Riverfront Park before which Evans makes the announcement the orchestra is making the Keith-Albee its new home. Then watch the story we did prior to this one, in which Evans "waxes poetic" about how much she'd like to make the Keith their home.

A Great Night for A Concert with the Pops on the Riverfront
Besides the fantastic weather and music there was that news...

Huntington Symphony Orchestra Executive Director Laura Evans and Maestro Kimo Furumoto had lots of reasons to smile Saturday night at this summer's final Picnic with the Pops concert at Harris Riverfront Park. 'Dancing Under the Stars' was the theme for the night and producer Tony Seaton has it and some good news announced Saturday by Evans for you. Click on the pics above to see the sights and hear the sounds of HSO in concert.

A Conversation with Laura Evans, Revisited
Evans Waxes Poetic on the Keith and the HSO...

Given the good news on the Huntington Symphony Orchestra/Keith Albee front, we thought we rerun an interview we did with Executive Director Laura Evans at the time of the last Picnic With the Pops concert, at the beginning of July. Just in case you missed it, or need a little refresher on Evans vision for HSO Producer Tony Seaton has that conversation for you. Just click a pic to watch.
Allegiant Air was being tight-lipped about future plans for flights out of Tri-State when this video aired, but you'll note our reporting hinted at the announcement soon to come, of flights to Ft. Lauderdale. And now, it's exactly a month away from Allegiant's newest flight to Florida.
HNN is taking that inaguaral flight to St. Pete/Clearwater on February 9th, and we'll have that story as soon as we get back from that rough assignment. Here's the story from August of last year as Allegiant was making big waves in Tri-State Airport's passenger boardings, numbers even then, with only one Florida flight.

Huntington Tri-State Airport Flying High
Passenger Numbers Skyrocket

Huntington Tri-State continues to show substantially higher passenger traffic at its increasingly busy gates. Monthly boardings are their highest since 1998, and year-to-date passenger volume is up 76% over last year, according to Beckie McKinley, the airport's marketing director.
Producer Tony Seaton has the story. Click the pic to watch.
